JULY KEY POINTS

TREND ESTIMATES

  • The trend estimate for sheep slaughterings declined for the eighth consecutive month to 794,000. This was the lowest figure recorded since October 2003.
  • The trend estimate for cattle slaughterings declined for the seventh consecutive month to 639,000. This was the lowest figure recorded since January 2006.
  • The trend estimate for mutton production declined for the eighth consecutive month, to 16,300 tonnes. This was the lowest figure recorded since September 2003.
  • The trend estimate for beef production decreased for the seventh consecutive month, to 172,000 tonnes. This was the lowest figure recorded since December 2005.
